Is neutral really best?

It's often thought that when deciding what color to paint a room or house, that in order to retain the highest resale value, you'd better stick with a neutral color.

Well.

It is true that neutral colors are often the safest choice, and a good one at that. However, one thing must be remembered:

NEUTRAL DOES NOT MEAN BEIGE.

Don't get me wrong. Beige has its place - but perhaps not in every single room.

Again, neutral colors are great to stick with, but neutral is not a synonym for beige. Consider last year's top color from Benjamin Moore, Guilford Green:

This lovely shade of green is considered neutral, but also adds a bit of character to the beautiful bathroom which it envelops.

Other neutral colors to consider:

Gray:

Blue:

Violet:

Red:

Of course, some of these colors may not be for you. In that case, don't use them!

However, DO use color if you want to. I don't at all recommend using bright, vibrant hues that will be off-putting, but to use a bit of color is totally fine.

So, in considering what color you should paint your next project, don't forget that a little life is fine!
